Once Again, Closed-source Performs Inadequately

If you own a Zune, then you’re probably underwhelmed by Microsoft’s performance integrating the Zune with its own Media Center software. Ironic, since the whole point, of Microsoft producing it’s own music player, was to integrate hardware with software quickly; something that wasn’t being done quickly enough for Microsoft’s tastes. Yet, Microsoft has failed to integrate the Zune with Media Center; the Zune can’t read Media Center’s proprietary DVR-MS files, perform .wmv conversions for Zune playback, nor does it list hand-encoded episodes as TV shows in the library. Zunetvwatcher is about to change all that. Third-party tools for re-encoding TV are already available, but Zunetvwatcher goes one step further. Media is synced between the Zune and Media Center; erase something off Media Center and it’s erased off the Zune. Additionally T.V. shows are properly labeled as “T.V.” not “Video” something other software makers have failed to do.

Once again, closed-source has failed to do something I’ve already been doing with MythTV for years now. I’m over three-thousand miles away from my MythTV; I’m able to re-encode T.V. to fit on my Motorola Q, and send it to my Powerbook.
