Semi Start Menu for Microsoft’s Smartphones?

SmartToolkit adds quick access to the My Documents folder, a few control panel items, a text editor, and a lot more. Plus it’s free. For now it’s comes as an .exe . In this case I’m not sure what the difference is between a .cab and a .exe, but it goes on your phone either [...]

GrandCentral Goes Mobile

I could make some sort of pun out of GrandCentral, cell phones, and terminals, but I’ll spare you the grief. Looks like GrandCentral now sports a mobile interface so you can check your in-box from your phone. If you don’t know what GrandCentral is David Pogue sums it all up pretty well here.

SideWindow

SideWindow uses your Microsoft PPC in a Vista sideshow like fashion. It doesn’t appear to provide full Sideshow functionality, but looks pretty useful if you already a PPC. Pocket PC Thoughts has a pretty in-depth review here.

Microsoft; Why we removed Bluetooth DUN

Kudos to Microsoft’s mobile team. On the Windows Mobile Team blog they’ve been asking developers what they would like to see in the smartphone, and producing personal programs they needed on their phones. Now the developers are even addressing negative feedback they’ve received from WM5 AKU3. Specifically, people want to know why Bluetooth DUN has [...]

Windows Home Server

Microsoft’s answer to the home server void seems pretty damn cool. You have to hand it to who ever names Microsoft’s products, there’s nothing like naming your product with it’s own description. Want a home server, but don’t want to waste time learning Linux, comfortable with Microsoft products? This might just be for you. Interestingly [...]

Smartphone Network Analyzer

You just can’t fault Microsoft for producing some pretty handy/ free software tools. It’s even better when said software is produced for both the smartphone and PPC platforms. Want to run ping and ipconfig on your phone? Microsoft has you covered. I’m pretty sure I can find a reason to use this a long with [...]

Speed Up Motorola Q Browser?

After my really non-scientific tests with OpenDNS turned out so er… well I decided to OpenDNS on the Motorla Q. Of course, instructions for Palm OS and Win Mo 5 phones are already available. In order to do that you’ve got two options. First, the manual way involves a few steps: We’ll be editing your [...]

Microsoft Sued by Mozilla Foundation, April Fools?

I don’t speak, nor do I read German so I can’t tell if this is written with tongue-in-cheek. It appears that, in a not so open-source kinda’ way, the Mozilla foundation is suing Microsoft over tabbed browsing. Let’s hope this is an April fools gag and not an attempt to stifle innovation for the masses. [...]

Sync Windows Directories with Linux

Using cwRsync on Windows and rsync on Linux you can seamlessly mirror directories on two or more computers. In my case, because of iTunes and an iPod, I’m forced to keep a copy of my library on a desktop computer and on my media server. Yes, I’m aware of mt-daapd and I already have it [...]

Ars Takes a Peek Under Windows Vista’s Dress

A lot of long-overdue and much-needed technology has been put into the Vista graphics layer. If you’re developing software, that’s great. But what does it mean for users? Link via Digg
