Hand-Helds’ New Frontier …well ok, its first frontier all over
Mr. Krabbenborg of the Dutch police says the iPAQ hand-held devices from H-P have become invaluable. “Some of my officers say, ‘You can better take away my pistol than my iPAQ,’ ” he says, tapping the screen of his own. Up pops a map of Elst dotted with flags pinpointing where recent burglaries took place.
Hand helds aren’t new to the vertical market. In 1997 3Com and Symbol Technologies began targeting the vertical market together. How long must we wait before the hand held becomes indispensable to the everyday worker? When will I be able to choose the hand held over my tool of choice, the book, or computer?
